Nitrous Oxide and Conscious Sedation
What levels of sedation are available to me and how are they administered?
- Inhalation — Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is the most frequently used method for easing mild to moderate anxiety. Recovery is quick so you can resume your normal activities immediately.
- Oral — An extremely common technique for dental sedation is oral sedation. It is easy and does not require the use of needles. You will be given a prescription pill which, taken about an hour before your appointment, will have you fully relaxed by the time you arrive at our office.

Conscious Oral Sedation
Conscious sedation via oral sedatives is a great way to make dental appointments more comfortable for someone who is apprehensive of dental treatment. Conscious sedation has the benefit of being able to take a pill instead of receiving the medicine through an IV. You will be awake, but very sleepy and the effects wear off in a few hours!
